Behold, the CHROMATIC DRAGONS.

They're quite mean, actually, even to other Chromatics.

Chromatic dragons are the violent cousins of the usually easy-going Metallics. They have little social structure, preferring to live in close-knit, self-governed tribes or family groups rather than have a territory-wide government like Metallics. Groups of Chromatics are usually all the same color, though multi-species groups aren't uncommon. Black dragons are the only truly solitary dragon, staying in pairs only for mating and the care of young until a certain age.

Chromatic dragons are war-torn creatures, most of-age dragons being covered in scars. Since the split from Metallics after the treaty ended, they have generally existed in continuous hostility toward other groups. In other words, even if they wanted to ban together to attack Metallic territory, they wouldn't get along long enough to do anything. Despite this, they are generally friendly with close friends and always respectful of family and same-color dragons. Groups meeting as they travel can have mixed effects. Sometimes they fight, but usually they grudgingly allow trade relationships and wisdom or advice about the road ahead to be heard. On rare occasions a dragon from one group may break off or join another.

All Chromatic species base much of their morals on war. The strongest survive, the weakest perish, etc. Males and females alike fight for mating privileges. Young dragonlets are trained to fight within their first five years. It is the dream of every young dragon to become head of his group by beating - or even killing - the current leader.

Most of the Chromatic territory is volcanic; most of it is covered in ash and petrified forests, which is fortunate since many Chromatics feed primarily on ash. Meat, as always, is preferred, but is not necessary.

Another species of dragon, called the Flit, exist in Chromatic territory with minimal fuss. They are very small - comparable to the proportion of mice to humans - and feed on insects that bother the Chromatic dragons. The larger Chromatics find their purpose worthy, and thus do not bother them in the least; sometimes they are even encouraged to stay around and travel with packs. Flits are very intelligent and not at all cruel. They also exist in much smaller numbers on Metallic territory despite their chromatic coloring for the same reason Chromatics keep them around. They like to laugh and often victimize both young and old dragons in their pranks.

Note: Chromatics can be any color except ones held by Metallics (gold, silver, bronze, etc); the ones listed are just the major species. As you can see, their scales are very dull.

PS. AHA I MADE PURPLES TINY LITTLE BUGGERS. They're basically the "raccoons" of the dragon world (I would say they're mosquitoes, but I already have plans for that, haha). Sorry Spyro!
